A Little Nonsense Now and Then: Opening

The Gabriel Family is proud to invite visitors to the Woodchuck Hill Farmhouse for an opening in honor of Anne Gabriel’s lifetime of artistry. One of her earliest works is a cross-stitch reading “A little nonsense, now and then, is relished by the wisest men!”

Anne Gabriel (1923–1993) was born in New York City, graduated from college, and after marrying, lived and traveled in many countries. A largely self-taught artist, her work spans a number of mediums, and includes an extensive collection of tole painting with gold leaf. Also on display is her stenciling work on furniture, paintings on glass, and a watercolor.

The Woodchuck Hill Farmhouse (circa 1790) is filled with artifacts demonstrating her eye for decoration, craft, and artistry in needlework.
